Press Release

Lacoste/Keane Gallery is pleased to present, in two parts, the sale of important works from the Halsey and Alice North Collection. The first part is Contemporary American Ceramics from December 8, 2018 to January 5, 2019 and the second part is Contemporary Japanese Ceramics, which will be from January 19– February 16, 2019.

Halsey and Alice North are founding leaders of The North Group Inc., which has helped many non-profit organizations with fundraising, planning and development for over 30 years. They are passionate supporters of contemporary ceramics and have assembled one of the foremost collections of contemporary Japanese and American ceramics in America. Since downsizing their New York City abode, they have appointed Lacoste Keane Gallery to sell their large collection to good homes.

The Norths have exhibited their collection at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston and New York’s Japan Society and published their catalogue CONTEMPORARY CLAY: Japanese Ceramics for the New Century. Numerous museums have toured their home and works from their collection can be seen at the MFA Boston, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Freer | Sackler Galleries/Smithsonian/Washington DC, Peabody Essex Museum, Mint Museum, and Portland (Oregon) Museum of Art.

As reviewed by Artdaily

Each piece of work comes with extensive documentation to provide the audience a full history, context and provenance. As diligent supporters of ceramic art, they have fostered over the years, close friendships with the artists through studio visits, interviews, cataloguing works and acquisitions. For each of the exhibition at our gallery, they will be giving a PowerPoint presentation at the Collectors Preview and a walk through at the Public Opening Reception. Works will be available for sale online and at the gallery.
